CATATONIA
Sleep paralysis is a phenomenon that prevents sufferers from moving any part of their body while experiencing an episode. It is a state between sleep and wakefulness associated with lucid dreaming and, historically, with incubi and other mystical and inexplicable matters. Arguably, a society can suffer from a form of collective catatonia that prevents it from taking action while passing through different stages between reality and reverie.
